Challenges and Opportunities in Emerging Markets

July 16-18, 2010

The Society for the Study of Emerging Markets (SSEM) will hold its EuroConference 2010 in Milas, Turkey. SSEM was founded to promote research and publication about emerging market economies and to provide a way for academics, policy makers, and members of the business community to exchange views and share information and research on emerging markets. The Society sponsors the journal Emerging Markets Finance and Trade (EMFT), which is recognized worldwide for the quality and timeliness of the research on emerging markets that it publishes. The Society also cooperates with its regional affiliates and with allied organizations in other countries, and it holds international meetings and conferences devoted to issues relevant to emerging markets, often in cooperation with leading universities and research institutions as well with regional partners.

 

EuroConference 2010 will provide participants an opportunity to share research on the challenges and opportunities facing many emerging markets. The conference will take place in Milas, located in the Mugla region of Turkey. Milas is an ancient city in southwestern Turkey, offering many sights of interest. It is minutes away from Bodrum, which is an international center of tourism and yachting and from the Milas-Bodrum airport. Submissions are solicited on a wide variety of topics relevant to emerging markets including but not limited to:

  • monetary and fiscal policy
  • financial institutions and markets
  • international trade flows
  • foreign direct investment and outsourcing                
  • economic development and growth
  • energy policy and security
  • employment and migration  
  • agricultural economy
  • resource economics
  • regional integration and monetary union
  • transition to a market economy
  • sustainability and “green” economic development
  • political stability and country risk
  • post-crisis global architecture and regulation
  • corporate governance and privatization
  • the end of Doha and future of global trade liberalization

 

Special Issues

All submitted papers will be considered for publication in the journals Emerging Markets Finance and Trade and Eastern European Economics, both of which are included in the Social Sciences Index and Journal of Citation Reports, published by Thomson Reuters.

 

Important Dates and Notification


Extended Abstract or, preferably, Complete Paper Submission Deadline: January 31, 2010.

Acceptance of papers will be announced by February 20, 2010. Papers will be reviewed by the Editor, the Editorial Board and the Associate Editors of EMFT.

Conference Registration for Accepted Papers: March 30, 2010.

Registration for participants not presenting papers- July 15 2010. Those wishing to attend the conference but not to present a paper may contact the organizers if they wish to serve as a discussant or chair a panel.

Accepted papers must be submitted to the Editor of EMFT by May1 for inclusion in the conference CD ROM and prompt consideration for publication in either journal associated with the conference.

 

Conference Dates:  July 16-18, 2010.

 

Submission Guidelines


Interested authors should submit an extended abstract or a copy of the full paper to Conference Maker.

 

Registration and Accommodation

The conference fee is $200 for all attendees. It includes

  • access to all conference sessions
  • one year membership in the Society for the Study of Emerging markets (including web access to the Society’s journal)
  • a CD ROM with all conference papers
  • a boat excursion to Bodrum on Saturday, July 17

There will be a boat excursion to Bodrum on Saturday, July 17. This activity is free for those registered for the conference and will include a dinner and bus service from the hotel to Bodrum. Additional tickets can be purchased during the registration at a cost of $75 per person.   

The conference will take place in the Milashan Hotel in Milas (http://www.milashanotel.com/). The daily room rates for conference participants are:

  • Single bed (one person) – US$ 80
  • Double bed (2 people) – US$ 120
  • Triple bed (3 people) - US$ 150

Hotel rates include all taxes and include breakfast and Mediterranean-style lunches and dinners.
